Context
Cloudflare-Tunnel requires the published hostname's DNS to be on Cloudflare. The existing
domain robmck.uk lives in AWS Route 53, and Cloudflare's free plan only does whole-zone
setups (apex nameserver takeover) — a subdomain-only "partial" setup is Business-tier. Moving
robmck.uk off Route 53 was undesirable.
Decision
Register a dedicated, throwaway domain bobsmcp.uk (via Cloudflare Registrar, so DNS is on
Cloudflare from the start) and use it for the tunnel. robmck.uk stays untouched in Route 53.
Consequences
- No DNS migration;
robmck.ukand Route 53 are unaffected. - A stable
https://bobsmcp.ukfor the broker, ready for Cloudflare Access/WAF. - One extra ~£1/yr domain. (A free
*.ts.netFunnel host was the alternative — see ADR 0001.)
